Should the first letter of the word following a colon to be in capital? I have seen both letter in lowercase and in capital following a colon from different books before. makes me wonder which one is more correct. Thank you for reply in advance!!

Only capitalize the word following the colon if it is the beginning of a full sentence, and is followed by another full sentence. Example: She wanted to know a couple of things: How old was I? Where was I born? If the phrase following a colon is not a full sentence, then we don't capitalize it. Example: For Thanksgiving dinner, his grandmother served: turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, beans, bread and apple pie.
