What does "dear to heat" mean? Hi, What does "dear to heat" mean? "The hall often cold. House poorly insulated and ferociously dear to heat."

The British use 'dear' to mean expensive. Americans don't use it that way anymore. So the house is ferociously (very) expensive to heat.
