Hi,
That "ri-" means "again".
For example:
"Trovare un portafogli" means "to find a wallet"
"Ritrovare il portafogli" means "to find back the (lost) wallet".
Therefore "ritrovare" means that you find something you've lost, while "trovare" just means to find something.
I think instead that the difference between "Trovarsi" and "ritrovarsi" is a bit less definite. Again, the second means that you're going to meet again, or to be again in a place, while the first simply that you're going to be there.
"Ci troviamo da Mario alle nove" ("let's meet at Mario's at 9")
"Ci ritroviamo da Mario alle nove" ("let's meet again at Mario's at 9")
So the second form assumes that you're going to be in that place with someone you're with earlier (now we are together, then we split, then we meet again there), but all in all, we often use "ritrovarsi" as a synonim of "trovarsi".
Maybe someone has a better idea on this and will prove me wrong though :-)
Ciao,
Massimo.
