"Carousel" and "merry-go-round" are synonyms. In British English they use the term "roundabout". It's a revolving circular platform provided with wooden animals, seats, etc., on which people (mostly children) ride for amusement. You'll see one for sure at the amusement park, and sometimes a much smaller version at the shopping mall.
