Professional TeacherWhat is the meaning of the phrase ''check in on smb"? Is it the same as "to visit" or "come by"?
Hey, I got a favor to ask.
My mom's been kind of
an emotional wreck since that dentist she was dating dumped her.
I was just hoping that maybe you could CHECK IN ON HER tomorrow night and make sure she's doing okay.

It means to visit, yes, but it is a visit with the primary purpose to see that the visited person is well and doing fine-- that they are not sick or hurt or in need of help.
