I have a sentence that I cannot understand the meaning.
What is the meaning of "no length is too great" , of the sentence below?
---Hume eventually comes to the disturbing conclusion that no length is too great when protecting his family.

'to go to great lengths' is an idiom which means to try very hard to achieve an aim, sometimes even to the point of where it hurt you or someone else.
The sentence is referring to this type of 'length'.
Hume eventually comes to the disturbing conclusion that 'no amount of trying is too much' when protecting his family.
In other words, he will try anything and everything
