If you're talking on the phone or writing to someone you haven't seen in a very long time, then yes, those would be acceptable questions.
However, you can also say 'Have you ever grown a beard?' which would mean over a person's entire life had they ever grown one, even if they didn't have it at that particular time.

Kelli has already answered this question. I just wanted to add that I probably would use it emphatically, something like this on the telephone: "Have you grown a beard?! Seriously? I thought you hated beards!"
