What does" I can relate to that" mean? The Context: The professor said to a student," Too many of my students used to memorize small facts for a test and then forget all about the broad concepts. I want you to study the concepts so you will leave my class with a general perspective that you won't forget." And the student responded,"I can relate to that." But, what did he mean? I will be very grateful to all who provide help! Thank you!

It means that he's been in a situation similar to what the professor's speaking about. He has personal experience being the sort of person who memorized small facts at the expense of learning broad concepts.
