which one should i use? A basket of flowers was/were put on the dinning table. which should i use, was or were? Or they are both right?

You should use 'was'. It agrees with 'basket'.

A basket is one thing, so you should use 'was'. Otherwise, you might say: Flowers were put on the dinning table. Baskets of flowers were put on the dinning table.
