What's the British slang word for an ordinary soldier?emphacising it's not an officer I once saw this word somewhere,but forget it now.And I can't find it in dictionary.Again,it's a British informal word for a non-officer soldier.Thanks.

Tommy is a common term for a British soldier, although it is associated most closely with The Great War (also known as World War I). I am not sure if Tommy is still used today. Squaddie seems to be a contemporary term.
