what does "fair exotic "mean?
"he strove to shelter her,as a fair exotic is sheltered by the gardener..." what is "fair exotic", i can't find definition of fair that applies to this situation..

"exotic" is a noun meaning "an exotic plant/flower".
"fair" is this example means "fragile".
So he is sheltering (protecting) her as a gardener would shelter a "fragile exotic plant".
