It doesn't mean that we would die, what it does mean is that we wouldn't be able live in the way that we like to live because we have created a particular need for something, for example: If we found that we no longer had mobile telephones or computers, we would find it very difficult to live without it because we have grown to depend on this form of communication and so therefore would not know how to communicate without them.
