There is no difference you can use both for the same thing. Cuentame is more common and the sinonim in this case should be "Dime". Digame is used more often in certain countries mostly in Southamerica but it´s understood everywhere, in the rest of the countries it is a very formal way to talk or it is a sign of respect when you are talking with older people or someone you just met.You must know that all the verbs have the "formal" way examples.
