In many countries Shoman, foreigners and native speakers alike, adopt a kind of Pidgin English. Thus, an American in another country might ask something like this of a person. "You---talk-ee English?" or "You---Speak--ee English?" Thus, you have the expression I------Talk----ee or italki. --Warm Regards, Bruce .

I just assumed it was a made up word for the website, but it could mean something in another language. It's definitely not English. In my head I've always read it as 'eye-talk-ee'. I have no idea if that's what it's meant to be.

It's mix of the words "i" and "talk"

I assumed it's a play on the word "talk". Now with technology it's cool to put "i" in front of everything like iPad, iPad, iDevices etc. So iTalk, then add a hypocritical suffix to make it sound cute. iTalki
