What is "ditch play" mean here? Thank you!
The context seems to be from a novol:
I knew right off that this was a 【ditch play】. And I didn't think about it until later, but ditch wasn't
a play I'd run with my dad before. Face it, pulling a ditch is not something discussed with dads.

The father is helping his son to get rid of (ditch) someone by telling the boy to go inside and help his mother. This is what is being called a "ditch play" or ploy.
