Is it correct to use the word "servus" at the end of an email, meaning "cheers"?

As far as I know the word "servus" is mainly used in south parts of Germany (Bavaria) and in Austria. If you write this word to someone from Munich, then I guess it will sound ok, but if you write it to someone from Hamburg, then he will understand it, but I guess it will sound quite odd. Generally I would recommend not to use it in formal emails like job applications but only in communications with your friends.
