"26 years ago yesterday"? What does the part "26 years ago yesterday" mean? "I started going out with my first love 26 years ago yesterday - 27th August 1983. I was 15, he was 17. He was gorgeous; blond hair, tight jeans and donkey jacket - I fancied him like crazy!! In fact, I still do ................... we're still together, 19 years of marriage and two teenage children. Blond hair has flecks of grey, and the tight jeans and donkey jacket are long gone, but the love is still there ............... ahh bless!" She is speaking on 28th August 2009, talking about an event which occurred 26 years and one day ago. 26 years ago = 1983. Yesterday = the day before today =27th August.

Let us say yesterday was January 18, 2014. Twenty-six years ago yesterday then means "January 18, 1988." In other words, yesterday made 26 full years since the day an event occurred.
