Erstwhile is a synonym for past or former.
"In the erstwhile Soviet Union, communism was prevalent .".
Humanistic (or humanism) is usually used to mean an ideology or philosophy asserting human dignity and welfare, and man's capacity for fulfillment through reason and scientific method, and often rejecting religion.
Use:
"In the future, more people will follow humanistic ideas in day to day life."
