What does this mean? These lyrics are from 'forty-seven ginger-headed sailors'. 1. What does mean 'she' in the third line from the bottom? 2. If it means 'HMS Cock-Robin', what does 'she's got a father' mean? Is he the owner of the ship? Now there's a good ship, H.M.S. Cock-Robin. On her home trip, Up and down she's bobbin' Oh the crew's pretty tough. The sea is so rough. They're all fed up and say That they've had more than enough. She's got a father He's an able seaman And they call him Redhead Tom

She refers to the ship. In English we always refer to ships as she. He is the Captain of the ship.
