What's the synonym of "lest" that is more common in everyday English?
Take, for example, the sentence "She turned away lest anyone see her."
How would you say it in informal speech?
My dictionary says that "lest" is mainly used in the literature.

Lest sounds pretty old-fashioned. I'd go with "She turned away so no one could see her."
