That's a big question! Ever is a common word used in different ways. Ever does NOT mean always. Used with forever maybe, like in "forever and ever" as an expression. Ever is often put on the end of different words like whatever. Used alone in "did you ever go to a restaurant?" was a good example.

"Ever" means , at any point time .
For example ... "Have you ever been to that restaurant?"
Meaning : at any point in time , have you been to that restaurant .
