We cannot take care of ourselves. You need to be aware of intensive/emphatic pronouns which also use self/selves but have a different purpose. e.g. She had to do the work herself. (she had to do it because nobody else did it.. so _she_ is emphasized by the use of herself) You yourself asked me to bring you some ice-cream. (yourself is used to emphasize that it wasn't anyone else but _you_ that asked for the ice-cream.. )

Por ejemplo: Ella cortó el papel = She cut the paper Ella se cortó el dedo (forma reflexiva)= She cut her finger En español la mayoría de los verbos pueden declinarse, añadiendo "se", para formar la forma reflexiva, eso no pasa en inglés. Como puedes ver en el ejemplo, la conjugación del verbo "cortar" es "cut" y la conjugación del verbo en forma reflexiva "cortarse" es exactamente la misma "cut". Otro ejemplo: Senté al niño en la silla = I sat the baby on the chair Yo me senté en la silla (reflexivo) = I sat on the chair. Ahora, con respecto al uso de "self" ("selves" en plural), no es un reflexivo puro. Ya que el inglés no tiene reflexivos, se vale de esta forma para poder expresar que la acción recae sobre el sujeto que efectúa la acción. Por ejemplo: Ayudando a otros nos ayudamos a nosotros mismos = helping other we help ourselves.
