Do these sentences mean the same?
1. Several overcrowded buses passed as we were wating.
2. Several overcrowded buses passed when we were wating.

Several buses passed as/while we were waiting. 'When' here is a little clumsy, perhaps implying that had you not been waiting, they would not have passed.
