For some reasons, French have decided that job titles, when they apply to someone specifically, do not need an article. Ex : Je suis musicien. (But if it's not to describe someone you know, someone not that special, you need an article. Ex : J'ai engagé un musicien.) So here, the same is true. Being a bridesmaid is, in a way, a kind of work.
