I think the word you mean is 'putain' . It's quite a rude word. It means 'prostitute', but French speakers use it as a general type of swear word.

It is a word you should not use. It is comparable to the "b"word in English and it is used to curse/swear by men usually.Like Feng said it means also "prositute", so better not use it!
