Being sort of a nerd (retired software engineer) I really like the work of M. C. Escher. I also like the Belgian surrealist Magritte. The U.S. artist Grant Wood is best known for one single painting, "American Gothic," which is quite unfair as he did many striking paintings--I'm partial to "Death on the Highway," http://wcma.williams.edu/files/2011/03/47_1_3_x1200.jpg and "Parson Weems' Fable," http://www.culodecebra.com/blog/hh-0421-pintura-grant-wood-parsons-weems-fable-arte-americano-personajes-ilustres-siglo-xx.jpg I am not quite sure why, but I also like the work of the British Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

I personally like illustrative art and the impressionist painters. Monet is one of my favorites. What are your favorite types?
