What's about Robert? At whose place he will hide today? If he stays here all alone, he will tremble in his shoes (to stay within the metaphor of clothes, but anyway, a literal translation makes no sense at all, just this: kriechen means to crawl, but unterkriechen means to find maybe a tiny place where to stay/sleep/hide, sich ins Hemd machen means to fear sth. very much, to be really afraid of.
