How do I say 'I was granted sick leave' in French?

I believe that you could also say: 'On m'a accordé un congé de maladie'.

I'm not sure but i think the right sentence is: J'étais en arrêt maladie.
Do you want to say that you were sick and cannot go to work? and the doctor give you a paper for your employer?
