I don't understand the following grammar.
je me disais en les écoutant
I said to myself....
what does "en les ecoutant" mean?
ecoutant ??

while (I was) listening to them.
"écoutant" is the past participle, note that, in French, it's not used to form the continuous / progressive aspect.
