гнездó — гнёзда
звездá — звёзды
веслó — вёсла
метлá — мётлы
седлó — сёдла
село — сёла
деснá — дёсны
веснá — вёсны
женá — жёны
Чёткого правила на этот счёт нет. Вероятно, когда ударение переносится с окончания в единственном числе на букву "е" во множественном числе — она становится буквой "ё". Буква "ё" в русском языке всегда ударная.

This is plural form of верста. It's an archaic Russian word (means long measure).
You should only learn it. There is no rule for using "ё" in plural.
