I was walking home when I saw an old man who looked worried. I asked him if he was OK and he told me that he had dropped his walking stick and had been trying to pick it up for some time. The poor man looked desperate to I picked it up for him and accompanied him home.
I think that covers all the tenses you need. Hope it helps.
