What is the difference between 夕食 and 晩御飯 ?
Are they just two different ways for saying the same thing, or is there some other context or politeness implied? Thanks!

So they are basically interchangeable, except 晩御飯 is only really used when spoken. Interesting! Thank you Haruka.

These are the same thing. 晩御飯 is basically a spoken word, but 夕食 can be used both in writing and speech. So, the second sounds a bit more formal, but there isn't much difference.
