Could you please explain how the word "inquiry" is used by way of examples?

To make an inquiry into something is to ask about something. Example: I made an inquiry into the availability of the venue. (note that in British English you should use the spelling 'enquiry' in this case) It can also mean an investigation. Example: The police suspended the inquiry into the murder.
