dishonored = rejected.
Say you send a check to the credit card company, but you don't have any money in the bank. The bank will reject that payment (it will be dishonored), and the credit card company will hit you with a fee of $42.50.
FYI: Warren Buffet says no one should use credit. "If you're smart, you don't need it, and if you're stupid, you have no right to use it."
