'y' in Pinyin
I have been taught that 'i' is pronounced ee but when it is at the beginning of a word it is WRITTEN 'yi' but still pronounced ee. I have one teacher that says that the english language (ying wen) is pronounced with a 'y' but the other teacher says it is written 'ying wen' but pronounced 'ing wen'. Which is correct?
Thanks

Hi,Jakie. This is John. I know some basic Pinyin in Chinese looks like very simple but actually its hard to handle them.
Okay, the most important thing I want to tell you is that the the first teacher is right.
It's written as "ying wen" and pronounced as ying .
Maybe you will feel confused on the Pinyin.
Pinyin "y" you can pronounce it as " i:" or "ee"
Pinyin "ing" you can pronounce it as english soundmark "ing" example: doing moving.
My english is not so good . I doubt whether my answer could help you or not.
