Out there vs There When must one use 'out there' instead of 'there'? Why is out there used in this sentence? There lots of resources out there to guide you.

This is more about context than strict grammatical rules. "Out there" is abstract. There ARE lots of resources out there to guide you means "Out there in this abstract space" (which could mean online, in a library, etc.) you can find resources. If you said, "there are lots of resources there to guide you" you mean that the resources are present. It is for sure that the resources are there. It is a less abstract way to say the sentence. You can also look at "there are lots of resources out there to guide you" as a causal sentence. Something you would say to a friend. "There are lots of resources there to guide you" may be something you hear from a teacher when she is referring to something specific. It is more like a command. Hope this helps! This is coming from a native american english speaker.

"There" is more specific. "The city library has many history books. There are lots of resources there" "If you want to learn about history, there are lots of resources out there". Here no specific location where you can find the resources are specified. They are "out there" to be found in many places. Think of someone pointing through a window and saying "out there, it's a big world; you can find anything".

"there" refers to a specific place and "out there" refers to everywhere that's not here. You can say "there are lots of resources there..." if you know where "there" means (e.g. a library, the Internet, etc.), but if not "out there" means everywhere.
