Is "The distance between us is really very far." OK?

Not quite. "distance" is a noun and so would need an adjective to qualify it, like "long" or "great".
"far" is an adverb of place. Another way to say your sentence is : "We are very far apart."
Be careful of exaggeration "really, very". Although it's poor style, people do it all the time, I mean, quite often!
