X호 ? X번 ?
Hello,
I recently saw a lot of "(number)호" on my korean makeup,
and I would like to know what is the difference between 호 and 번 ?
When should I use 호 instead of 번 ?

If you have seen the 호/번 in the cosmetics, it will mean the same thing. There is no difference between 호 and 번 when it comes to numbering the cosmetic products.
However, it does have some difference as well as the similarities.
1. Similarities : 호 / 번
-> Both fo them are 'measuring nouns', that comes with the number.
-> Both shows 'order of the number', like 1호 / 1번 (first one), 2호 / 2번(second one)
* Tip : Usually, in cosmetic products, they use 호 more than 번, but they mean the same thing.
2. Difference : 호 / 번
- 호 : It is used to show room / office number in the building or the house number.
ex) Apartment number 101 : 101호
House number 102 : 102호
Room number 103 : 103호
- 번 : It shows the number of times something has been done.
ex) I jumproped 5 times. : 줄넘기를 5 번 했어. (jumprope = 줄넘기를 하다.)
3 times knocking : 노크 3번 (knock = 노크)
Color your lips for 5 times : 입술을 5번 칠하세요.
* Tip : If a person who is in the 'cosmetic video' advise you 'to do something' X번, than he/ she will mean the 'number of times' not just the 'product number'.
Hope it can be a help.
