'-처럼/같은/같이' 대신에 '-답다'를 언제 사용할 수 있나요?
꽃 같은 소녀,
a girl who looks like a fower
꽃다운 소녀,
a girl who is beautiful as much as flower.
말처럼 먹다,
말같이 먹다,
말답게(x) 먹다, (how could? As a horse?)
무언가의 긍정적인 가치를 표현할 때는 '-답다'를 사용하는 것 같아요. 맞아요?
- 네 맞아요.
The suffix '-답다' in the adjectives formed with 'noun-답다' shows that something or someone has a similar feature or quality that most people expect from what the preceding noun has. So, in most cases, those kind of adjectives are usually used to show approval.
남자-답다, to be manly
남자다움, noun, manliness
여자-답다, to be womanly
여자다움, noun, womaniness
Consider the following example, please.
He spoke out in a deep manly voice.
그 남자는 남자다운(or 남자답게) 굵은 목소리로 말했다
She spoke out in a deeo man-like voice.
그 여자는 남자다운(x) 굵은 목소리로 말했다.
그 여자는 남자답게(x) 굵은 목소리로 말했다.
그 여자는 남자처럼/남자같이 굵은 목소리로 말했다.
In the above, she who spoke in a deep voice was a woman, not a man. Thetefore, we cannot say it with the word 남자답다.
남자 같다, to be like man, or to be mannish
여자 같다, to be like woman, or to be womanish
남자-같이 (adverbial case particle -같이)
남자-처럼 (adverbial case particle -처럼)
Another example,
How rude! If you are a Korean indeed, behave yourself in a way of Korean (as a Korean).
무례하오! 당신이 진정 한국인이라면, 한국인답게 예의바르게 처신하시오.
