Given that is just another way of saying "provided that" or "as long as ___".
For example, if I wanted to say that I could only eat an apple if i had a banana, I could word it like so:
1. Provided that I have a banana, I can eat an apple.
2. As long as I have a banana, I can eat an apple.
3. Given that I have a banana, I can eat an apple.
I hope this clears things up!
