Why 'search me' means 'tell someone that you don't know the answer to a question I am reading the Oxford dictionary, and I find a item that I don't understand. One meaning of search: Why 'search me' means 'tell someone that you don't know the answer to a question.Could anyone explain it for me?

Search me. "You can investigate (=search) me completely for the information you want but you won't find it." http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/search+me It is an idiom.
