What does "has a good ring to it" mean?
I'm reading an English novel and having trouble understanding this phrase. In the context, the characters are discussing how to rename a place and address the new name as "it has a good ring to it". Maybe it means "that sounds good"? I just can't understand the word "ring" here.

It means that "it sounds good"; it's often used as a way of describing a catchphrase eg "Just do it!" by Nike has a good ring to it

You were right, it just means that is sounds good.
I think the expression was originally used to talk about bells, which makes ore sense. But now it is commonly used in English to talk about other things as well.
