かえます or かえません?! Are these even words?
While studying my notes I have かえます as meaning "can buy/able to buy" and かえません as "can't buy/not able to buy" but when I look these words up they do not appear. I translate my notes from audio lessons so the problem is probably that they are not properly transliterated. Any help would be appreciated :)

As you are mentioning, this is the potential form of the verb to buy.
買う "Kau" infinitive
買います "Kaimasu" ます form.
買えます "Kaemasu" affirmative potencial form
買えません "Keemasen" negative potential form
