Would you help me understand this sentence?
Her 19-year-old son told her that his Airbnb host in Madrid had locked him in the fourth-floor apartment where he was supposed to be staying and removed the key.
I can't understand the meaning of "removed the key."
Is this "he was supposed to be removed the key" or "he removed the key"?
Thanks in advance!

"locked" and "removed" are two predicates, "his Airbnb host" is the subject of the sentence

It means the host locked him in and took the key with him, so he couldn't open the door.
