What's the difference between 食べました and 食べっていました ?
When I should use 食べました and when 食べっていました ?

食べました = I ate.
食べていました = I was eating.
(食べっていました is incorrect)
晩ご飯を食べます。I will eat dinner.
晩ご飯を食べています。I am eating dinner.
晩ご飯を食べました。 I ate dinner.
晩ご飯を食べていました。I was eating dinner.
「なんで電話をかけませんでしたか?」Why didn't you call? 「晩ご飯を食べていたから。」Because I was eating dinner.
