The word 'chico'
In some Latin American countries, am I correct in saying that some of them use 'chico' to describe things as small?I'm mainly talking about in Latin American countries if anyone has any info about them...

En el sur de España. ... es un niño chico = es un niño pequeño. Ese árbol es muy chico= ...pequeño.
Como adjetivo significa pequeño. Como nombre significa muchacho, hombre joven.

"Chico" can be used meaning "small" in Spain. Actually in my region in Spain this is the main meaning and we prefer other words like "muchacho", "chaval" or "zagal" than "chico". Although I know in the North they use more "Chico" as a noun meaning "muchacho".

En España puede decirse que algo es pequeño y alguien es muy chico (edad).
Muy coloquialmente puede decirse la palabra CHICO para llamar la atención de alguien:
¡Hey!, Chico, ven un momento

The three first definitions in the Real Academia de la Lengua Española dictionary are:
1. adj. pequeño ( que tiene poco tamaño).
2. adj. niño.
3. adj. muchacho.

For us this word means a child, but it has many synonyms:
- Niño, muchacho, chiquillo, pelado, nené.
