Why do koreans add Pal (팔?) to their friends' name ?
Hello,
I was just watching a korean drama and heard a guy call his friend "Jung Pal" instead of "Jung Hwan". Is there a special way to translate that or is it peculiar to korean ?
Thank you!

oh, it's a way of being friendly by calling his nickname.
but sometimes it's trying to make fun of him or even humiliating, trying to hurt him, making him embarrassed. you should know the accent and their feeling.

hmm question for me is... is it an original Korean word and is the fact that "pal" like in "pen pal" has a similar meaning conicidental or is it an English derivation?
