What's the difference between "готовить" & "приготовить"?

Готовить (несовершенный вид) — приготовить (совершенный вид)
— Ты приготовил обед?
— Нет не приготовил, готовлю.
— Ты приготовил обед?
— Нет. Буду готовить через полчаса.
— Ты приготовил обед?
— Нет. Когда готовил обед, отключили электричество.
Приготовлю чуть позже.

— Ты приготовил уроки?
— Нет. Буду готовить через час.

I can compare these verbs with meaning of Continious and Perfect tenses in English. Готовить normally means process like "I am cooking; He was cooking", приготовить is close to "You have cooked". However definitely you should take under consideration grammar (rules of conjugation). My explanation is quit general.
