'Lint' is what we call the tiny little threads that get detached from clothes, especially when you wash or tumble-dry them. Washing machines and tumble-driers sometimes have a 'lint trap', which is a kind of filter that traps this stuff so that it doesn't block the machine or get stuck in the pipework. Every so often you detach it and throw away the bits of lint.
