What’s the meaning of ‘porta feriti’ in the context?
Does it mean stretcher-bearer?
Thanks. It’s from A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway (Chapter 9).

Somebody who carriers a stretcher (google image stretcher for explanation). Stretcher bearer sounds like old fashioned war talk.

It means 'wounded-carrier" in Italian, so I guess yes
